From May 30 to June 1st, shops and restaurants along Las Olas are celebrating "Las Olas on Sale." A three-day event when shops bring down prices.

If you were to ask Joan Leader to meet you on Las Olas Boulevard, she'd probably show up hungry.

"I think of lunch or dinner," the 78-year-old Hollywood resident said, walking along the boulevard with a friend after having lunch at YOLO. "Not shopping."

Las Olas merchants want to turn people like Leader into both restaurant patrons and shoppers. Las Olas is not just about food and drinks, they say.

Study: Passenger rail would boost economy by $6.4 billion - By Michael Turnbell, Sun Sentinel

Construction of the planned passenger rail line that links Miami and Orlando would generate more than 10,000 jobs during its two-year construction, according to a consultant's analysis released Wednesday.

The project also would add $6.4 billion to Florida's economy over the next eight years, according to The Washington Economics Group Inc., which was hired by All Aboard Florida to measure the economic impact of its proposal....That impact includes $2.4 billion in labor income through 2021 and $653 million in tax revenue.
